Fire ravages District Hospital at Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir
January 19th, 2010 - 9:01 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Jan 19(ANI): A major fire broke out at the District Hospital of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The inferno, which reportedly started in the wing housing the pathological laboratory, resulted in extensive damage to the OPD (out patient department). There was no report of any casualty due to the incident.
The blazes raged for almost three hours before it was brought under control by the fire brigade with the help of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel.
Although the exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag District, Sheikh Mushtaq, suspected it to be an instance of short circuit.
“We came to know that the fire started from one of the laboratories in the hospital. It has occurred because of short circuit and became fierce because of the chemicals inside the lab. Thankfully no causalities are there. The fire is under control now,” Mushtaq said.
Meanwhile, critical patients in the hospital have been shifted to another hospital in Anantnag, while patients with minor ailments have been shifted to Public Health Centres at Bijbhara, Mattan and other places in the district. (ANI)
