Fire guts over a hundred shanties in New Delhi
June 5th, 2010 - 2:32 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, June 5 (ANI): Over hundred shanties were burnt down as a massive fire gutted a slum area near Okhla on Saturday.
The locals here said that they do not know the exact cause of the fire.
“Within half an hour, everything got burnt. We don’t know how did it occur, we saw smoke and because of strong wind, I have lost everything,” said Raju, a local.
Several fire engines were rushed to the spot and firemen took about two hours to douse the flames.
“20 to 22 vehicles are working. The fire spread fast because of the strong wind. There have been no human casualties so far. After two hours of effort we have doused the fire,” said Vijay Bahadur, Divisional Officer.
No human casualty was, however, reported. (ANI)
