Farmers fair in Jammu and Kashmir attracts visitors
November 13th, 2009 - 6:14 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Nov 13 (ANI): Hundreds of farmers here today visited a ‘Kisan Mela’ (farmers fair) to learn about procedures to increase agricultural yield.
Organized by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Agriculture University, the event provided a stage to farmers to showcase their agriculture yields and share information on how to augment farm output.
State agriculture universities and other agencies working in the field of agriculture also displayed their know-how at the fair.
“In events like this, farmers can showcase their products and agriculture universities and other agencies can also highlight their research in the field. Farmers also get the required information, without visiting agriculture universities or other departments,” said Gulam Hassan Mir, State Agriculture Minister.
The farmers were pleased and described the fair as valuable.
“We are happy to be here as the event has provided us a platform where farmers are meeting and discussing how can they benefit,” said Farooq Ahmad, a farmer.
Different wings of the Agriculture Department including sericulture, horticulture, floriculture and animal husbandry department put up their stalls for exhibition of their products. (ANI)
