New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Friday said that the existing laws were enough to tackle and check the menace of terrorism.
Speaking in an interview to All India Radio, Patil rejected any chances of POTA being re-introduced, and certain amendments could be made to the existing Unlawful Activities Prevention Act to make it more effective to deal with the menace of terrorism.
Strongly advocating the need for Special Forces to deal with terrorism and left-wing extremism, Patil said that the Central Government is raising 10,000 Cobra forces specifically for this purpose.
He said, the Center is providing Indian Reserve Battalions to the State Governments and asked for specialized training of at least two battalions in each state to tackle the problems of terrorism and naxalism, as they are increasingly adopting the military tactics in their operations.
The Home Minister also underlined the need for recruitment of more police personnel at state level, strengthening of the intelligence machinery and modern weapons and gadgets including state of the art communication systems to thwart the designs of anti-national forces.
He informed that center and some state governments are toying up with the idea of setting up Police Universities as an aid to fight the menace effectively. (ANI)
