European Union to send 110 observers to monitor Nepal polls

Kathmandu, Mar 15 (ANI): The European Commission will send 110 election observers to monitor the April 10 Constituent Assembly elections in Nepal .

Member of the European Parliament Jan Mulder will lead the Election Observation Mission (EOM) team that will begin its official observation from March 17.

The mission consists of 40 long-term observers, to be deployed on March 22 and other 60 short-term observers will be deployed in the main parts of the country just before the polls day. Apart from this, the team will include a core team of 10 experts.

The mission will remain in Nepal for 10 weeks.

“The elections for the Constituent Assembly are a cornerstone in the peace process in Nepal . The Constituent Assembly will provide the Nepalese population with a forum to carry forward democratic reform in the society,” quoted Commissioner for external relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, as saying.
