Equal Opportunity Commission would not hinder minority commission: Khurshid
December 18th, 2009 - 10:49 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI) : Union Minority Affairs and Corporate affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has assured the minority community that creation of equal opportunity commission would not in block the National Minority Commission any way.
Addressing the programme organized to mark the National Miniorities Day, Khurshid said : “The setting up of an Equal Opportunity Commission would not in any way block the National Minority Commission and that the two organisations will work hand-in-hand for the development of the minorities.”
Khurshid also congratulated the National Minority Commission for the work executed by it.
“We do not want any commission such as the National Minority Commission to be any way undermined or diluted because of the emergence of Equal Opportunity Commission,” Khurshid said.
Khurshid said the government expects the Equal Opportunity Commission to “Seamlessly from the outstanding work and excellent work that it has done under the leadership of such outstanding people as Mohammed Shafi Qureshi.”
In his address Khurshid also underlined the progress that the Commission had made in the last one year.
“We also hope that in the next one year, you’ll see a fairly conspicuous, on the ground, sense of what the Sachar Committee has been able to achieve. A Rs.3700 crore were earmarked in the 11th five-year plan for the Sachar Committee implementation out of that Rs 990 crore are to be spent this year,” he said.
Khurshid honored those who have done good work for the minority communities. (ANI)
