Engineering exports to touch 50 billion dollars in current fiscal: EEPC
March 4th, 2011 - 8:02 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 4(ANI): Exports of engineering goods from India are likely to be over 50 billion dollars in the current fiscal, according to Commerce and Industry Ministry Joint Secretary Sumanta Chaudhuri.
Chaudhuri said this while speaking at a buyer-seller meet jointly organized by the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India with the Union Commerce and Industry Ministry in the national capital. .
“India is a major exporter of light and heavy engineering goods and has a well developed and diversified industrial machinery and capital base,” Chaudhuri said.
The buyer-seller meet has participation of over 40 delegates from USA, Canada, CIS, ASEAN and South Asian countries.
It was organized in conjunction with India ASEAN Business Fair and Business Conclave coordinated by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and is an initiative to provide a platform to engineering companies for mutual interaction.
S.C. Ralhan, Regional Chairman of EEPC India (Northern Region) highlighted that the export of engineering goods are in a state of flux, saying that the growth of exports of engineering goods during April-January 2011 has been to the tune of 70 percent over the same period last year.
“India is in fact one of the countries which produces the highest numbers of engineers in the world. He also stated that Asia as a continent is going to play a very important role in shaping the destiny of world trade and that the world should look at Asian markets afresh,” Ralhan said. (ANI)
