Enforcement Directorate issues ‘Look Out Circular’ against Lalit Modi
October 15th, 2010 - 8:41 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Oct 15 (ANI): The Enforcement Directorate has issued a ‘Look Out Circular’ against sacked Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi at all entry points and airports in the country in connection with its probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds in the T20 cricket tournament.
The circular has been sent to entry points and airports in the country along with the photographs of 46-year-old Modi.
The circular empowers the police and other enforcement agencies to detain the individual at these check points and immediately inform about the detention to the issuing agency.
It has been reported that the Enforcement Directorate has also initiated the process of revoking Modi’s passport and is examining the FIR filed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against him for alleged misappropriation of funds.
The Enforcement Directorate had recently issued an international ‘Blue Notice Alert’ for Lalit Modi’s detention for alleged ’serious contraventions’ of the foreign exchange law after its investigation.
The notice issued by the Enforcement Directorate earlier this month has asked law enforcement agencies across the globe that Modi ’should be detained as and when noticed’ and the agency be ‘informed immediately’.
The issued notice bears Modi’s photograph and passport number besides other details.
BCCI Secretary N. Srinivasan had earlier on Wednesday filed a police complaint against Modi on charges of misappropriation of funds.
The BCCI had given a show-cause notice to Modi in May this year, charging him with financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament.
Modi was accused of committing a wide range of corruption allegations, including bribery and tax evasion, resulting in his suspension from the post of IPL Commissioner in April. (ANI)
