Encephalitis kills 90 people in Uttar Pradesh
July 18th, 2010 - 10:34 pm ICT by ANILucknow, July 18 (ANI): Over 90 deaths have registered in Uttar Pradesh due to encephalitis since January this year, and the situation has aggravated after the onset of monsoon.
Although the farmers are happy with the arrival of monsoon, the fear of encephalitis epidemic has also spread.
Talking to the media persons on Sunday, Dr. R N Singh, a child specialist blamed the administration for ignoring the saying about prevention being better than cure.
“The homework to be done in January and February was not done. Vaccination was not given on time, pigsties were not built, fresh drinking water was not made available, and health related information was not given to people,” Dr. Singh said.
“So, the possibility of this was expected,” he added.
Local residents, the parents of affected children, in particular too blamed the government for lack of support.
“We don’t know the reason that whenever monsoon arrives at that time this disease widely spreads and the whole village gets worried, but we don’t get any better help from the government. Neither we have a solution for this disease,” said Amit Rai, a parent.
Since the beginning of this year 508 patients have been admitted in hospitals out of which 92 death cases have been reported so far. (ANI)
