Election Commission bans two rupees per Kilogram rice scheme in Kerala
March 8th, 2011 - 7:17 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 8(ANI): The Election Commission on Tuesday banned Kerala cabinet’s decision to extend provision of rice at two rupees per kilogram to all ration cardholders.
Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto has asked the state government not to distribute forms and seek votes on the scheme, as it violates model code of conduct.
Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan announced the scheme on 13 February.
The cabinet had decided to extend the scheme to families belonging to Above Poverty Line (APL) category.
The assembly polls in Kerala will be held on April 13. (ANI)
