New Delhi, Feb 4 (ANI): Additional Secretary in Home Ministry Anita Choudhary, at an internal security meet, said that an executive committee meeting to discuss the modernisation plans of the police force would be convened soon.
Concerned over the lack of protective equipment to tackle the recent terrorist strikes in Mumbai, a national police mission has been undertaken to mordenise the Indian police department by procuring better weapons and modern gadgets.
Choudhary revealed that the mission has been divided into six parts in which the Police authorities have been asked to come up with innovative ideas to renew the force.
She said that the police would plan a road map to deal with several security challenges in the next ten years.
Addressing the industrialists in the two-day meet she urged them to maintain a continuous dialogue with the security agencies.
She advised that the companies should try investing in research and development for the betterment of the security forces.
Deputy National Security Advisor Shekhar Dutt, who was also present in the meeting, said that the use of technology should be maximised for matters of surveillance and weapons.
He also emphasized the role of human intelligence forces.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2005 had suggested transforming police forces in the country into effective instruments for maintenance of internal security and for facing the challenges of the next century by equipping them with the necessary material, intellectual and organisational resources.
