EC asks clarification from Sonia over her ‘merchant of death’ remarkDecember 8th, 2007 - 10:24 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Dec 8 (ANI): The Election Commission today reportedly sought a report from the Congress over ‘merchant of death’ remark made by Congress President Sonia Gandhi at a rally in Gujarat.
This comes hours after the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a reply to the notice issued against him by the Commission demanded similar notice be issued against Sonia Gandhi for making such remark.
Modi in his reply asked why the three-member Commission did not issue notices against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and another Congress leader Digivijay Singh for referring to the administrators in Gujarat as “liars, dishonest and merchants of fear and death (Maut-ke-Soudagar)” and a State which has unleashed “Hindu terrorism.”
“Surely it cannot be policy of the Election commission first to ignore the violation of the Code of Conduct in her (Sonia’s) statement and then censor my political response to that statement,” Modi wrote, adding, “I am sure the Election Commission would at least now proceed to take action on those reports.” (ANI)
