Bangalore, Nov 22 (ANI): Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni refuted media reports of a rift with the selectors over selection of the team for the remaining matches of the One Day International (ODI) series between India and England.
Talking to the reporters on Saturday in Bangalore the Indian skipper said that the reports are baseless.
“I don”t know from where the report came from, so it will be good if you tell me from where the report came from. It can”t be a report because what happens inside while the selectors, captain and the coach is there. If it comes out its disgusting its disrespecting and things like these shouldn”t happen. I am not telling about whether something happened or not in the selection meeting. We got to see we are at the highest you can say stature because we are selecting 16 guys for the Indian team and you will have debates inside and things like that shouldn”t come out because (if) they are supposed to come out then I feel its better off that we can have live television out there and we can discuss right there, because what comes out nobody knows apart from the guys who are sitting down whether its hundred per cent truth or its not, ” said Dhoni.
Dhoni also said that such happenings do have an impact on the team’’s morale but things went well in sorting out misunderstanding in the team.
“To some extent it does because you know the good part is you know we trust each other because in a scenario like this all of a sudden you have to get in touch with R.P. Singh and Irfan Pathan because you know you don”t want them to feel as if you know R.P shouldn”t feel out of the way I will stand and defend him and at the same time Irfan shouldn”t feel that I don”t need him in the side. But the good thing was both of them trust me and everything went well,” added Dhoni.
According to media reports the Indian skipper was upset and offered his resignation over ouster of left arm pacer R.P. Singh from the team for the remaining matches of the current series against England.
Irfan Pathan another left arm pacer was included in place of Singh.
Meanwhile, Peter Moores, coach of England cricket team said at a news conference that they need to win Bangalore ODI to stay afloat in the series.
“We are under pressure because if we loose this game we will loose the series. So it’’s a big game. I think if we put ourselves quite rightly…the last four games are big games…. we know we have got to do it here in Bangalore and its slightly different form of Day-Night so you know we will go in…. from now on every game is final for us because we will have to win four games to win the series. We need to build that belief in ourselves,” said Moores.
India is leading the series by 3-0 thanks to some scintillating batting performance by hosts specially the southpaw duo of Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir who have been in great touch in the series so far.
India scored comfortable victories in the first two ODIs but the last one was a close contest between the two sides as India could manage to win by 16 runs in the weather hit match decided by Duckworth-Lewis method following bad daylight.
The fourth ODI of the seven match series will be played on Sunday in Bangalore. (ANI)
