Dharamsala photo exhibition pays tribute to the tenth Panchen Lama
January 1st, 2010 - 12:34 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh), Jan 1 (ANI): A five-day photo exhibition was organised by a Buddhist monastery at Dharamsala here to commemorate twenty years of the passing away of the tenth Panchen Lama.
The exhibition concluded on Thursday.
On view were rare photographs and vintage Thangka paintings (traditional Tibetan scroll art) that showed the lives of Panchen Lamas.
The organisers wished that through this exhibition the world will remember the forgotten Tibetan Buddhist lineage of spiritual leaders.
The main aim of the exhibition was to show the world that the tenth Panchen Lama had consistently worked for the welfare of the Tibetan people, and also that he had struggled to preserve Tibetan theological culture despite Chinese conquest and rule.
Yudon, who coordinated this exhibition, hoped that mass awareness about the Tibetan spiritual leaders will spread for all times to come.
“The main aim of this exhibition is to create awareness among the people outside for the Tibetans. Even though they are Tibetans but they don’t know much about the Panchen Lama,” said Yudon.
Dawa, a Tibetan lady who came to view the exhibits opined that exhibitions of this kind should exert pressure on the Chinese to free the homeland of Tibetans.
“It’s a big deal I think because they don’t know much about Panchen Lama and through this way it will put pressure on the Chinese. I hope all the people should put pressure to the Chinese, through this way they know that how much Panchen Lama has done for Tibetan people and then how much important is the eleventh Panchen Lama,” said Dawa.
