New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): His holiness Gaden Tripa Rizong Sras-Trul Rinpoche of Ladakh has been appointed as 102nd Gaden Tripa, the supreme head of Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism.

His followers in the national capital felicitated him on Thursday under the auspices of Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association.

Buddhist monks say his achievement has made them happy and proud.

“In the history it is for the first time, that someone of Indian nationality has become supreme head of Gelugpa School of Tibetan Buddhism. It is a matter of pride, not only for the people of Ladakh but for the entire people of India,” said Lama Chosphel Zotpa, President, Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association (HBCA), New Delhi.

Among those who undertake a rigorous study and practice of Mahayana Buddhism at different levels and stages for about 35 to 40 years, only the fortunate ones reach to the great seat of Gaden Tri, the supreme head of Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. (ANI)
