Deora rejects reports of inconsistency in petrol pump allotment to Parliament attack martyr’s familyDecember 13th, 2007 - 10:19 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Petroleum Minister Murli Deora today rejected media reports that the wife of one of the martyrs of the December 13, 2001 terrorist attack on the Parliament has not received land for petrol pump, as promised by the government.
Certain reports posted on internet today said that Vimla Devi, the wife of ASI (assistant sub-inspector) Nanak Chand who was killed in the 2001 terrorist attack complained at the function held to pay tribute to the martyrs that she was yet to get land for a petrol pump, which was allotted to her as part of compensation following the killing of her husband.
In his clarification, Deora said: “the person’s name is Ganga Devi and not Vimla Devi.”
“My Ministry has given top-most priority in providing relief to the families of victims of terrorist attack on Parliament as per the policy,” Deora said.
Out of the nine outlets, three were commissioned in 2003, one in 2006 and four in 2007, Deora said.
“The retail outlet allotted to Ganga Devi, was commissioned on January 25, 2007. The RO is functioning smoothly without any problems. The monthly sales in this RO is 40kl of petrol and 150kl of diesel and the allottee has not approached the BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation) officials with any problem so far,” he said.
Deora further said: “I have personally reviewed the progress in commissioning the ROs from time to time and have also taken up the matter with the Chief Ministers of States for allotment of land for setting up the ROs.”
He said that in providing relief to the families of the victims, their requests for choice of location have been accommodated and added that in some cases, this has resulted in extending the date of commissioning of the RO.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of the incident in which five gunmen stormed the heavily guarded Parliament complex and killed nine people before being shot dead by the security personnel. (ANI)
