Dense fog hits normal life, disrupts air-rail services in Delhi
January 8th, 2011 - 12:12 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Jan 8 9ANI): Most of the people in national capital woke up this morning to witness dense fog and chilly weather, with reports claiming that the prevailing conditions have disrupted air and rail services.
Air operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were affected due to the dense fog leading to delay in schedule of several flights, and the visibility at the airport varied between 175 metres and 225 metres across seven runways - resulting in the cancellation of five flights.
Fog started to hover over the airport on Friday night and thickened around 11 pm, forcing airport authorities to implement low visibility procedures at around 11.20 pm.
As many as 60 trains have been delayed and six had been cancelled on Saturday.
Raod traffic in the capital was affected as well. Visibility on roads was down to a dismal 50 metres. Drivers have been cautioned to use fog lights and move cautiously.
The minimum temperature on Saturday is likely to be around 5 degrees Celsius and maximum 15 degrees Celsius.
In fact the whole of north India has been facing bone-chilling cold conditions with the mercury sliding to sub normal range.
The minimum temperature dropped to 4.3 degree Celsius on Friday while the day temperature rose to 15.6 degree Celsius, giving little respite.
The cold wave has prevailed throughout this week and the maximum temperatures have dropped downt to below 15 degrees Celsius on several days. (ANI)
