New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said that all efforts would be taken to make Delhi Police force among the best forces in the country.
Chidambaram, who was the chief guest at the 62nd Raising Day Parade of the Delhi Police, said that various aspects of policing in Delhi are being taken into consideration to make it one of the best forces in the country.
“We will do everything in our power and capacity to keep Delhi Police among the best police forces in the country,” he added.
Chidambaram further said that New Delhi being the national capital has always faced terror threats, and thus the police needs to be innovative and imaginative in its approach to counter it.
Policing in the metros and the large cities always require more visibility, mobility and striking power, he added.
On the occasion, Chidambaram gave away gallantry and police medals.
Among those who received medals were Maya Sharma, the wife of inspector M C Sharma, who laid down his life fighting terrorists in the capital on September 19 last year.
Jama Masjid Police Station was selected as the best police station in the city for its maintenance of record, cleanliness and solving of cases.
Altogether, 33 policemen recived awards on the occasion.
The nearly 70,000 strong force, touted as the largest metropolitan contingent in the world, has in the past year been lauded for its crackdown on a range of economic offences, busting terrorist hideouts, besides making new forays into cyber crime.
India has in 2000 joined an elite club of 12 nations with digital laws after it passed the Information Technology Act, which enable police to combat cyber crimes and civil authorities to legally validate deals done on the Internet. (ANI)
