Delhi Police files chargesheet against Kobad Ghandy
February 19th, 2010 - 3:24 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against top Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy.
The special cell of the Delhi Police filed a 1020 page chargesheet against Ghandy.
The court had asked the Delhi Police to file its chargeshet by today.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court has granted permission to the Orissa Police to interrogate Ghandy in connection with several cases of Naxal violence registered against him.
The officials of the Crime Branch and civil police will question Ghandy at the Tihar jail with respect to the cases registered in Nayan garh and Cuttack.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja had on Wednesday accepting the application of the Orissa Police had asked the Tihar Jail Superintendent of Police (SP), to let them interrogate Ghandy.
The cases against Ghandy includes the killing of ten policemen allegedly by Naxals, in which he too was wanted.
Ghandy had earlier been quizzed by the West Bengal Police in connection with a criminal case registered at West Midnapore district in 2008.
Andhra Pradesh Police had also interrogated Ghandy for his alleged involvement in a case under the Explosive Substances Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in Karimnagar district in 2008.
Arrested on September 20, 2009, Ghandy has been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act, 2008.
Ghandy is a politburo member of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist and worked for the party in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
He also played an important role in fostering the development of the front’s organisations. In 1994, he was allegedly active in floating a forum named the All India People’s Resistance Forum. (ANI)
