Delhi JD-U demands removal of contaminated water plants
April 25th, 2011 - 8:01 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Apr 25 (ANI): Janata Dal-United (JD-U) Delhi unit General Secretary and spokesperson Prabhat Ranjan on Monday expressed displeasure over the black marketing of drinking water in the national capital and demanded that contaminated water plants must be removed with immediate effect.
Ranjan said that a black-marketing of drinking water going on in West Delhi, particularly in areas like Uttam Nagar and Dwarka, and also charged the Delhi Jal Board officials of being involved in it.
He said that in many areas there are illegal water plants that supply water to limited residents.
“At times, people even find fungus inside the water, which actually contaminates the water,” said Ranjan.
Further criticizing the Delhi Jal Board, Ranjan said the report prepared by the Delhi Nagar Nigam also points out that drinking water is not properly being supplied to all the citizens in Delhi.
He also drew Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s attention to the problems of drinking water being faced by the common man.
The unauthorized colonies in the national capital face the problem of contaminated water in particular.
Residents of some areas have, however, now stopped consuming tap water and are dependent on a tanker and hand pumps following the fear of the spread of diseases such as jaundice and other stomach ailments. (ANI)
