Delhi High Court admits Romesh Sharma’s appeal in Kunjum murder case
May 12th, 2008 - 2:18 pm ICT by admin New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): The Delhi High Court today admitted the appeal of former Congress leader Romesh Sharma, challenging his conviction in the Kunjum Buddhiraja murder case.
A Bench headed by Justice H R Malhotra issued notice to the Delhi Police on Sharma’s plea for bail in the case, directing it to file its reply by July 23.
Sharma had on April 24 moved the Delhi High Court challenging the life term awarded to him by a city court after killing his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum.
On February 18, a Delhi court had awarded life term to Sharma and five others for conspiring to murder his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja.
Apart from Sharma, other convicts, including his nephew Surinder Mishra, Hemchand, Santram, Ramesh and Tejinder Virdi alias Dolly were also given life sentence.
Another woman accused Jaspreet Virdi alias Sonu was acquitted for want of evidence. The court had on February 15 held all of them guilty under Section 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
Budding fashion designer Kunjum was murdered on March 20, 1999. The prosecution alleged that Kunjum was murdered by people engaged by Surinder Mishra at the farmhouse when she visited it on March 20, 1999.
During the investigation, it was allegedly found that Surinder Mishra, Dolly and Sonu wanted to get rid of Kunjum as they felt that while they were taking care of Romesh and attending to his court cases, Romesh was giving away his property to Kunjum. (ANI)
