Delhi Govt. committed to ensure empowerment of women

New Delhi, Mar 7 (ANI): Asserting that the Delhi Government is strongly committed to the welfare of women from all sections of the society, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said sincere efforts were on to ensure social, economic and political empowerment of the fair sex.

Speaking at a function organised by the Delhi Government and Delhi Commission of Women (DCW), Dikshit said: “We are sincerely committed to ensure empowerment of women, particularly belonging to weaker section, in the city.”

“We must ensure that women get the rightful place in society. We will have to redress the imbalances and to achieve it we must work tirelessly and unitedly,” she added.

Sheila Dikshit said the civil society as well as the various NGOs have to play a prominent role in helping the government to improve security for women in the city.

Emphasizing her Government’s initiative, she said: “We will provide a platform to women entrepreneurs to so that they can sell their products at right price.”

The Chairman of Delhi Commission of Women, Barkha Singh, who was also present on the occasion, said: “The government would soon launch a scheme under which women members of all the 43 panchayats in the city will be given physical training so that they can resist any atrocities on them.”

“The training will also help the panchayat members to protect women from weaker section in their areas. Around 1,100 women would be imparted the training in the first phase,” she added. (ANI)
