Delhi Government to monitor upkeep of Commonwealth Games infrastructure

New Delhi, Oct 29 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has constituted a special committee to co-ordinate the efforts of upkeep and maintenance of newly created assets for the Commonwealth Games.
An oversight panel headed by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta will coordinate this work with various agencies like the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Public Works Department among others.
The Metro Railway Corporation will be asked to clean the area underneath their pillars whereas Delhi Police will be requested to remove disused traffic lights and traffic barriers.
A press release said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has underlined the importance of upkeep of newly developed infrastructure in the Capital.
She directed civic agencies to maintain a high level of cleanliness in all areas of the city and asked them to deploy a workforce to clean the roads. Dikshit specifically asked the authorities to ensure proper upkeep of stadia, street lighting, signages, bus shelters, greenery, flyovers and foot overbridges.
She further asked the agencies to undertake necessary repairs immediately after receiving any information about any damage to infrastructure to enable the capital city to look as bright as it used to be during the games.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council was told to enforce the Delhi Defacement Act to discourage posters and banners.
She instructed to take due care of the plants and stressed upon the need of their survival. It was reported that 98 per cent streetlights were functional during the games.
It was decided to constitute a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to co-ordinate the efforts of upkeep and maintenance of newly created assets. (ANI)
