Sonia Gandhi New Delhi, Mar 2 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit met Congress President Sonia Gandhi here on Wednesday to discuss the order issued by the Lokayukta, which recommended removal of PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan from his post for interfering in a tax raid on a South Delhi resort last year.

The Lokayukta had recommended to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil last week that Chauhan be removed from his post for interfering in a tax raid on a South Delhi resort last year.

Ruling that Chauhan misused his position to ask tax officials to go easy during the raid, the Lokayukta observed that the Minister cannot stay on in office, given his misconduct.

In his order, Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin said: “Her Excellency, President of India may thus be pleased, in the exercise of statutory discretion, to withdraw her pleasure for the Respondent (Chauhan) to hold office in terms of Clause (5) of Article 239AA of the Constitution of India and Section 12 of the Act, being the Competent Authority under the Act.” (ANI)
