New Delhi, Apr 3 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday announced an award of Rs two crore for Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni and Rs one crore each for four Delhi players after their victory over Sri Lanka in the World Cup final on Saturday.
“The Chief Minister has decided to honour Dhoni by awarding him Rs two crore and also decided to give Rs one crore each to Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Ashish Nehra,” a Delhi government official said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will honour the victorious members of the Indian cricket team with a residential plot each from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhrayal Nishank promised a residential plot or a house in Mussoorie hill station for Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.
He also announced that a stadium would be built in the state named after Dhoni.
India scripted a glorious new chapter in their cricketing history last night by regaining the coveted Cricket World Cup after 28 years. The last World Cup victory for India came against the West Indies in 1983 at Lords in England.
In the nerve-wrecking summit clash of the 2011 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets.
With this win, India has become the first nation to win the World Cup on home soil.
The win was also a fitting farewell to coach Gary Kirsten, for whom it was his last day as Indian coach. (ANI)
