Chennai, Mar 22 (ANI): The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at Royapettah Government Hospital, Dr A. Elango, reacting to the controversy surrounding the resignation of Dr. V Dekal, who conducted an autopsy on the body of former Telecom Minister A Raja’s aide Sadiq Batcha, on Tuesday said the doctor had submitted his resignation on March 3, much before Batcha’s post-mortem.

“Dekal had submitted his resignation on March 3, much before the post-mortem (of Batcha). The government has declined to accept his resignation citing scarcity of staff. He is expected to report to duty Tuesday. I don’t know from which constituency or state he wanted to contest,” said Dr. Elango.

The Madras High Court had on Monday directed Tamil Nadu Public Health Director to consider Dr. Dekal’s resignation.

On Monday, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, VK Subburaj, said the resignation has nothing to do with the case.

“Dr. Dekal had quit earlier, eyeing assembly polls. Dr. Dekal’s resignation has nothing to do with Batcha’s death,” said Subburaj.

Batcha, 39, was found hanging at his Chennai residence last Thursday. He was declared ‘brought dead’ to Apollo Hospital, Chennai at 1.20 p.m.

According to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials, he was closely connected to the 2G spectrum money trail.

Dr Dekal had earlier said that asphyxiation was the cause of Batcha’s death, but did not elaborate on the details. (ANI)
