Visiting Council of scientific and industrial research (CSIR) technology award event in held in the national capital, the Union Minister Prithviraj Chavan congratulated the space scientists and engineers on their achievement.
“The analysis of the data that we have collected is being done and out of the analysis a historic discovery …there being traces of water on the moon have been confirmed. It would not have been possible but for Chandrayaan. I congratulate space scientists and engineers heartily,” said Chavan.
The U.S. space agency NASA said its Moon Mineralogy Mapper or M3, found water molecules all over the moon’s surface. The M3 instrument was carried there last October by the Indian Space Research Organization’s Chandrayaan-1.
Three separate missions examining the moon have found clear evidence of water there, apparently concentrated at the poles and possibly “moving around” on the surface Four reports published recently in the journal Science show clear evidence of water, likely frozen, on the desert surfaces of both the Moon and Mars.
