Dalits, Muslims, Adivasis take out march in Delhi for egalitarian society

December 5th, 2007 - 9:43 pm ICT by admin -

New Delhi, Dec 5 (ANI): Over ten thousand of Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims and people from marginalized sections of society today staged a march to the Parliament in the national capital for development of an egalitarian society in the country.
The protestors carried placards and banners in the rally and shouted slogans for equal rights and immediate government action. They demanded equitable ownership of land and natural resources, quality education, health, employment and equal dignity to all.
“The Government has so far not implemented National Common Minimum Programme which has detailed a separate chapter on Dalits. The process of improving the lot of Dalits is declining, “Ashok Bharti, Chairman, National Conference of Dalit Organisation said.
“If we see the Arjun Sengupta Report, Human Development Report or Sachar Committee Report, indicators are that Dalits are trailing in terms of development,” he added.
The National Conference of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR) had organised this march.
National Secretary of Communist Party of India, D Raja, MP Ramdas Athavale, Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav, and AIDWA general secretary Subhashini Ali also addressed the rally. (ANI)
