Manmohan Singh New Delhi, Apr 26 (ANI): The Janata Dal-United (JD-U) terming Suresh Kalmadi’s arrest as a small step has asked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to initiate action against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over her alleged involvement in the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam.

Kalmadi was arrested on Monday by the CBI on charges of cheating, conspiracy and corruption for his alleged role in the AM Films and Swiss Time scams.

The arrest order was carried out after the CBI had questioned Kalmadi extensively on the two incidents, particularly on documents relating to the two deals.

“People know all the persons involved in the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam. Had this all been possible without the involvement of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Even the Shunglu Committee report has indicted the Delhi Government for causing massive financial loss in Games-related city infrastructure works,” said JD-U Delhi unit General Secretary and spokesperson Prabhat Ranjan.

He further demanded that Dikshit be arrested immediately so that others involved in the scam are exposed.

Sheila Dikshit earlier on Tuesday said Kalmadi’s arrest is based on evidence and punishment would be meted out to him as per the law.

“The treatment meted out to Mr (Suresh) Kalmadi is based on evidence acquired against him. Nothing happens without evidence. I have said it earlier and I reiterate that an accused in any matter would have to face an inquiry, punishment as per law,” said Dikshit on the sidelines of an event here, where she interacted with children suffering from cancer.

Even the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been demanding the ouster of Dikshit.

“This (arrest) is only the tip of the iceberg. Kalmadi is not the only one. Others have not been arrested. CBI should take stringent action against those involved in the Commonwealth Games scam,” BJP President Nitin Gadkari told reporters at the Maharashtra BJP office in Mumbai on Monday. (ANI)
