New Delhi, Sep 28 (ANI): Janata Dal-United (JD-U) Delhi unit General Secretary and spokesperson Prabhat Ranjan on Tuesday reacting to the restrictions imposed on exclusive lanes for the Commonwealth Games, said the upcoming sporting event has increased the woes of Delhiites.

“Games are organised on a large scale to showcase the country’s progress, but the 2010 Commonwealth Games has added to the woes of Delhiites,” said Prabhat Ranjan.

Ranjan said that buses are not available on most of the routes, making it tougher for common people to carry out their day-to-day work.

Earlier on Monday, Delhiites experienced the heat of the Commonwealth Games as the national capital witnessed chatic scenes such as huge traffic snarls and lack of transportation due to restrictions imposed by the authorities.

With police enforcing the restriction on roads from Games Village to practice venues from 8 a.m. for a period of 12 hours, office goers had a harrowing time during the morning peak hours.

It was bumper-to-bumper traffic on almost all roads, which have an exclusive lane for Games-related traffic, and many people were seen stuck in their vehicles.

Adding to the commuter woes, around 1,600 private Blueline buses were kept out of the roads as the Delhi Government prevented its operations near the Commonwealth Games venues in a bid to improve the image of the city ahead of the sporting event.

The NH-24 connecting Delhi with Uttar Pradesh was also jampacked. Commuters from Mayur Vihar, Vaishali and other east Delhi localities also complained about queues of vehicles on the NH-24 due to the restrictions.

The public had earlier been advised to avoid as far as possible Commonwealth Games lanes in general and Safdurjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Siri Fort Road, Harsukh Marg, Purana Quila Road and Mother Teresa Crescent Road in particular, as these roads are having two lanes in one carriage way and one lane of it is already reserved for Games related traffic.
