CWG closing ceremony begins amidst tight security at J.N.Stadium
October 14th, 2010 - 8:41 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Oct.14 (ANI): The closing ceremony of the XIX Commonwealth Games has commenced here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The organisers of the event are all set to put up their best show before the distinguished persons of the country present on this occasion and also people all around in the country and abroad, who will watch it all through Doordarshan’s Live telecast of the grand ceremony.
The ceremony that has begun here at 7.10. is scheduled to last till 9.30 p.m..
Thirty eight cameras have been put in place to cover today’s event on the ground. Besides, helicopter coverage of the event is also being done.
Ahead of the closing ceremony, elaborate security arrangements were put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the function at the J.N.Stadium here on Thursday.
Over 7,000 armed personnel, including commandos, quick reaction teams, Special Weapons and Tactics teams, have been deployed in and around the venue as part of a four-tier security cordon.
Anti-sabotage checks are being carried out in and around the stadium to sanitise the entire premises.
Nearby residential colonies have been thoroughly checked and security personnel deployed at strategic locations to keep an eye on any suspicious activity.
Men in plainclothes have also been carrying out combing exercises in coordination with intelligence agencies.
“Aerial surveillance is being carried out by the Indian Air Force,” said an official.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were already been deployed at the metro stations located near the stadium.
At the entry points, metal detectors and scanners have been installed to prevent entry of any banned object.
“A large network of closed-circuit television camera is installed to facilitate live surveillance,” said a police official. (ANI)
