Curfew relaxed in several Kashmir towns
September 26th, 2010 - 3:02 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Sep 26 (IANS) Curfew was relaxed in Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Srinagar and other parts of the Valley Sunday following improvement in the overall law and order situation, an officer said.
“Curfew has been relaxed in uptown areas and areas falling under Hazratbal, Zadibal, Zakura, Soura police stations in the city from 11 a.m. onwards today (Sunday),” the officer said here.
“In areas falling under police stations of Rainawari, Nowhatta, S.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal, curfew would be relaxed from 3 p.m. onwards.
“Phased relaxation in curfew restrictions is being carried out in all other towns of the valley. This decision has been taken following improvement in the law and order situation,” he added.
Meanwhile, hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani Sunday asked the people to resume their normal day-to-day activities.
Shops, markets, pavement vendors and other business establishments were operational in Srinagar, despite Sunday being a public holiday. People were seen shopping for essential items.
Traffic also started moving normally as public transport was plying on the roads.
