Cultural festival of specially-abled children organized in Imphal
May 1st, 2011 - 9:07 pm ICT by ANIImphal, May 1(ANI): A cultural festival was organized at the Government Deaf and Mute School in Manipur’s Imphal district on Sunday.
The aim of the event was to nurture the talents of persons with disabilities and to bring them to the mainstream.
K. Sobota Devi, Director of art and culture department, Manipur, said: “In this society, I think it is a well timed initiative to encourage the hidden spirit of the physically challenged persons.”
“And considering this point in our mind, we are organized this workshop to highlight their talent to the people and to bring them in the mainstream of our society,” she added.
She further said that such festivals prepare the specially-abled persons to find their place in the society.
“With this hope we are trying to develop their mindsets that they are also one of the persons like us. And we have been trying with the help of this cultural centre and other centres by organizing different kind of festivals, in which this disabled person can take part,” Devi said.
The parents of the specially-abled children accompanied their wards to encourage them.
During the event, specially-abled children performed various folk and tribal dances of the region. (ANI)
