CPI (M)s Central Committee meeting begins

December 20th, 2007 - 12:02 pm ICT by admin -

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): The three-day meeting of CPI (M)’s Central Committee began here today to finalise the draft political resolution for the upcoming party congress at Coimbatore.
The political resolution was drafted in the last politburo meet.
Issues like Nandigram and the Indo-US nuclear deal are likely to figure during the meeting.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya had said that the violent situation in Nandigram was a political and administrative failure.
The Central Committee is also expected to review developments on the Indo-US nuclear deal.
The party has taken a strong stand and told the government not to operationalise it without taking the UPA-Left committee into confidence on the safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The CPI (M) is opposed to the deal, but had permitted the government to hold initial discussions on the safeguards agreement.
Besides, other issues like trying for a non-Congress, non-BJP Third Front in Indian politics and its approach to mainstream political parties will also be discussed. (ANI)
