CPI (M) slams Govt for not criticizing Israel for flotilla attack
June 6th, 2010 - 9:51 pm ICT by ANIKolkata, June 6 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday has at the ruling Congress party-led UPA government for not naming Israel while criticizing the Israeli attack on a Gaza-bound aid carrying flotilla.
On the last day of CPI (M) politburo meet senior CPI (M) member Sitaram Yechury expressed party’s strong disapproval of the administration’s prudent approach, which he said, was a result of India’s crumbling under US pressure.
“The politburo has strongly criticised the Government of India for not even naming Israel in the latest attack against the humanitarian aid flotilla that was proceeding to Gaza. We think Indian Government under pressure from US has even refrained from naming Israel which is not a very good sign at all and it makes a mockery of our solidarity with Palestine cause,” said Yechury.
The Indian External Affairs Ministry said in a statement on June 1st that India deplored the tragic loss of life and reports of killings and injuries to people on boats carrying supplies for Gaza. Further the statement mentioned that there could be no justification for such indiscriminate use of force, which India condemns.
Yechury also accused political rivals Trinamool Congress, who recently swept Kolkata’s civic polls, of indulging in violence and even killing CPI (M) cadre.
“We strongly condemned the continuing attack since the municipal election results have come out where so far five of our CPM comrades have been murdered in attacks by the Trinamool Congress and many more have been injured and the politics of violence that was there even prior to the elections,” said Yechury.
