CPI (M) politburo to discuss, resolve disunity in Kerala unit next week
June 28th, 2009 - 12:36 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, June 28 (ANI): The Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) will meet here next week to deliberate on the “disunity” within the party’s Kerala unit.
The extraordinary two-day meeting will be held on July 4 and 5 to discuss the infighting between Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and the party state Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat has said the party’s highest decision- making body has decided to settle these wranglings at the earliest.
This is the second such initiative by the central leadership to bring peace in the Kerala unit. The first was held on February 13, 2005 in Kolkata. The Politburo had then asked both factions led by Achuthanandan and Vijayan to bury the hatchet and work unitedly.
Two years later, both Achuthanandan and Vijayan were suspended from the Politburo for taking their fight out in the public domain. Their suspensions were later revoked.
Achutanandan has come under attack from his ministerial colleagues because of his authoritarian style of functioning, while Vijayan’s removal is being sought because of his alleged involvement in the SNC-Lavalin power distribution graft case. (ANI)
