New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): The two-day politburo meeting of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will begin here today where several issues, including those related to Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, violence-hit Nandigram and the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, are likely to be discussed.
The issues related to Nasreen pertain to her return to Kolkata and her writings.
The situation in Nandigram after the deployment of the central paramilitary forces is also on the agenda.
The partys top-brass is likely to come out with a statement on the partys stand on these issues.
Apart from this, issues of national importance and political situation in the country are likely to come under scanner.
The leaders will also review economic and foreign policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.
Other important issue that may come up for discussion would be the party’s green signal to the UPA Government on starting talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on India-specific safeguards agreement related to the Indo-US nuclear deal, and its implications.
Officially, the main agenda of the meet is to finalise plans for the Coimbatore Party Congress scheduled for March next year. (ANI)
