CPI (M) leaders hold review meeting in Kolkata
June 19th, 2010 - 8:23 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, June 19(ANI): In what seems to be a serious exercise to improve the present West Bengal government’s performance prior the ensuing elections to the state legislature, leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met in Kolkata on Saturday.
Senior party leaders present at the meeting took stock of the performance of the state government and the various departments.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who had earlier missed the politburo meeting in New Delhi, attended the meeting and took part in the deliberations.
Later, speaking to the media persons, CPI (M) West Bengal Secretary Biman Bose asserted that the meeting was a routine assessment.
West Bengal is all set to go to the polls in 2011 and elect a new 294-member state legislature.
In the recently concluded elections to the civic bodies in the state, the main opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) had snatched the prestigious Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) from the Left Front and also defeated the Marxists in most of the other 80 municipalities.
In last year’s April/May parliamentary polls, the Communists won just 24 seats, down from its earlier score of 60. (ANI)
