C.P. Joshi emphasizes need to speed up construction of highways
April 27th, 2011 - 10:34 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Apr 27 (ANI): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Dr. C.P. Joshi today emphasized the need to speed up the preconstruction activities such as land acquisition and utility shifting with a view to hasten the pace of construction of highways. Reviewing the progress of National Highway Development Projects throughout the country in a meeting here, Dr Joshi exhorted the field officers to work in a result oriented manner with a changed mind set in close coordination with State Govt. officials concerned so that benefits of highway infrastructure development could reach people faster and result in economic development of the country. Speaking on the occasion the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Jitin Prasada asked the Project Directors to ensure that alignment of the projects should be selected after due consultation with local people so that minimum dislocation and inconvenience is caused to the local population. The meeting was attended by all the field officers namely Project Directors from Project Implementation Units all over the country. A total number of 298 projects with a length of approx. 14,000 kms were reviewed. (ANI)
