Congress will not bow to pressure: Rahul Gandhi

Kolkata, Sep 16 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said he has great respect for Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and added that there is nothing wrong in having an alliance with the Trinamool Congress for the upcoming polls in West Bengal. However, he said the Congress will not bow pressure from any party.
“Congress is willing to extend its hand, but the party will never bow down to anyone under pressure. Whatever we have, an alliance, it should be a partnership of respect,” said Gandhi.
“Mamata Banerjee has a right to opinion. I don’t dictate to others what they should do. Marxist ideology has failed miserably,” he told reporters here today.
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress is serious about forging an alliance with the Trinamool Congress before the coming assembly elections, and asked party activists to strengthen the party in West Bengal for an all-out fight against the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
“You have to strengthen the Congress so that it can be a determining factor in the assembly elections,” said Gandhi.
This is Rahul Gandhi’s second visit to West Bengal in the last fortnight. (ANI)
