Congress trying to woo the Left: BJPMay 5th, 2009 - 5:56 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, May 5 (ANI): Criticizing Rahul Gandhi’s remark that the Congress has ideological common ground with the Left parties, BJP leader Arun Jaitley said on Tuesday that the Congress lacks political ethics as it was trying to woo the Left in the midst of the Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Jaitley accused the Congress of having a “grab-all mentality”, saying it has misjudged its electoral capacity in these elections.
Earlier, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi told reporters here that the Congress was confident of forming the next government at the Centre as well as re-winning the support of the Left parties.
“On a lot of concepts we agree with the Left like education and health. There is a lot of meeting ground with the Left. There is absolutely no meeting ground with BJP for what they did in Gujarat and Karnataka and burnt Christians in Orissa,” Rahul said at the press interaction.
Jaitley lambasted Gandhi’s statements by saying that he shows political immaturity and lack of ethics.
He added that the Congress was making such statements because it has gone wrong with its pre-poll alliances.
On the issue of the misuse of CBI, Jaitley said the national party has confessed it was involved in such activity.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had stated, “Every party which is in power could put pressure on institutions. It is a fact.” (ANI)
