Congress sacks Kalmadi as parliamentary party secretary over CWG scam

Sonia Gandhi New Delhi, Nov 9 (ANI): The Congress on Tuesday sacked Suresh Kalmadi as secretary of its Parliamentary Party, seeking to distance itself from allegations of corruption linked to the XIXth Commonwealth Games.

AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said: “Kalmadi’s resignation as Secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) has been accepted with immediate effect.”

Party sources said Kalmadi had been asked to put in his papers as CPP Secretary.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who is the CPP chairperson, took the decision on the opening day of the Winter Session of Parliament, even as the opposition had threatened to raise the issue of corruption in e Games-related projects.

Kalmadi was the Chairman of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. The event was held from October 3 to 14 this year. (ANI)
