Congress distances itself from rotational chief minister idea
January 6th, 2011 - 7:30 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Jan 6 (IANS) A day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he would not vacate his post for the Congress after he completes three years in office, the alliance partner Thursday distanced itself from the theory of rotational chief minister.”I never made such a statement,” state unit chief of Congress Saif-ud-Din Soz told reporters here.
“It was a statement made by Mangat Ram Sharma (senior vice president and former deputy chief minister) in his individual capacity,” Soz said.
Soz, however, had not contradicted Sharma when he had made this statement at a rally in Jammu in December.
Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah Wednesday ruled out any change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir or any plans of effecting rotational chief minister in the state after the three years of coalition government are over in January 2012.
“I was told that I would be chief minister for the whole term of the assembly. Hence, I am the chief minister for six years. And the Congress high command is happy with my performance,” Omar said.
