Narendra Modi New Delhi, Apr 22(ANI): The Congress party on Friday took a dig at social activists, actors and industrialists who supported Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, after a senior police officer filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, alleging complicity of the Chief Minister in the 2002 Godhra riots.

IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has filed an affidavit before the apex court alleging that Modi categorically issued instructions that Hindus should be allowed to express their anger, while Muslims should be taught a befitting lesson so that incidents like the burning of Sabarmati Express never happen again in Gujarat.

Congress party spokesperson Manish Tewari advised Modi’s supporters to study the affidavit.

“For last nine years, whether they are businessmen, whether they are actors, whether they are social activists, we believe them to be sensitive, they have been praising chief minister of Gujarat from time to time. We want to request them, in front Nanavati Commission, in the Supreme Court that they should read the affidavit that has been submitted,” Tewari said.

“Whenever they get time, they should introspect what they would like to say those families whose members were killed in government-sponsored pogrom,” he added.

Industrialists such as Anil Ambani, iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan and social activist Anna Hazare have praised Modi for his development initiatives in Gujarat.

The riots in 2002 took place after the burning of the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002, in which 59 kar sevaks returning from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh were killed. The riots claimed over 1,000 lives. (ANI)
