Bharatiya Janata Party New Delhi, Apr 29 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari has criticized the inappropriate behaviour of Congress lawmakers during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting on Thursday, saying their conduct could be termed a ‘black day’ for Indian democracy.

“The Congress party has behaved in a childish manner, and, this is a ‘black day’ for the country’s democracy. And, I feel such behaviour today was like an atmosphere that is seen in Parliament,” he told reporters on Thursday.

Gadkari also criticized Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for directing and controlling the matter through cabinet ministers.

“Whatever has happened today is because of the Prime Minister’s directives. Four cabinet ministers were sitting there and controlling the activities, monitoring it. And it is very unfortunate that whenever the Congress party has got embroiled in corruption cases, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) come running to save them,” he said.

He further said the Congress is reacting in such a manner, as it senses danger because if an investigation is carried out it could put the ruling party’s image in jeopardy.

Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday walked out of a meeting where his report on the 2G scam was defeated by one vote.

Eleven of the 21 members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) including SP and BSP members, submitted signed voting slips rejecting the report prepared by Joshi.

The PAC in its report on Wednesday indicted former Telecom Minister A. Raja for misleading the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in 2008.

According to the PAC report, the PMO could have intervened faster in objections presented on A Raja’s ‘First Come First Serve Policy’.

The draft also says that Raja misled Dr. Manmohan Singh to fulfill his ‘nefarious designs’ leading to a staggering loss of revenue.

The draft further adds that the Prime Minister was aware of the advice given by the Law Ministry, which was contrary to the view of the Telecom Ministry.

The report is also critical of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who was the Finance Minister then.

According to the PAC report: “We are shocked and dismayed that instead of initiating stringent action against all those responsible for the loss, the Finance Minister in his note asked the Prime Minister to close the matter.” (ANI)
