Clinton arrives in Delhi

New Delhi, July 19 (ANI): Visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Delhi today.
Soon after her arrival from Mumbai, Clinton proceeded to the ITC Green Building in Gurgoan, Haryana, where she will talk about the importance of energy conservation at a time when climate change is having a devastating impact in various parts of the world.
She will then visit the National Agricultural Science Centre of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), where she will talk about cereal system initiatives being undertaken by the United States and how best cooperation can take place in this sector.
Clinton is scheduled to meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at the latter’s 10, Janpath residence this evening.
Tight security arrangements have been made in view of her visit. Around 2,000 police and intelligence officials and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos have been pressed into service.
Clinton has been given the highest-category security and will travel in a bullet-proof vehicle piloted, which will be escorted by security officials.
She will stay in the Taj Palace Hotel, which has already been screened by security agencies.
US intelligence officials have taken over the entire floor where Clinton’s room is located.
Security agencies have also placed bomb disposal squads, dog squads and anti-sabotage teams in and around the hotel premises.
On Monday, she will visit Delhi University to address Indian students at a function organised by the vice-chancellor of the institution.
A meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is scheduled for shortly after noon.
Clinton will meet Leader of Opposition, L.K.Advani at the latter’s 30, Prithiviraj Road official residence.
In the evening, she will meet External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna at Hyderabad House. This will be followed by a signing of agreements and a brief interaction with the media.
Clinton will leave for Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday. (ANI)
