Chris Martin names Coldplay album Viva La VidaMarch 20th, 2008 - 2:57 pm ICT by admin
London, Mar 20 (ANI): Chris Martin has named the new Coldplay album, Viva La Vida, in tribute to late Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
Martin insists that the Spanish phrase, meaning long live life, is not influenced by Ricky Martins song Livin La Vida Loca, but by Kahlo, who also happens to be one of Madonnas favourite artists.
Frida went through a lot of s*** then she started a big painting in her house that said Viva La Vida. I just loved the boldness of it, the Sun quoted him as saying.
Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine. I have absolute respect, he added.
The names chosen for the Coldplay albums have always been unusual, with their first collection called Parachutes and their last CD called X&Y.
In an interview with rock magazine Rolling Stone, he admitted to not being very good at christening things.
Ive been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying, Thats a terrible name, but then saying, Well, f*** you, thats what its called and Ill be proved to be right eventually, he stated.
“So when Viva La Vida came along I was kind of annoyed because Im going to have to convince everybody of this but it just felt right, he said.
The album is due out on June 16 and is reportedly a radical departure for the four-piece. (ANI)
