New Delhi, Jan 5 (ANI): Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei met Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon here today.
Yafei is also scheduled to meet National Secuirty Advisor M K Narayanan to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan following the Mumbai terror attacks.
The meeting was held ahead of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visit to India later this week.
India is expected to provide evidence of a Pakistani element’’s involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks to Jiechi.
Jiechi will also hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Pranab Mukherjee, on the latest developments in Indo-Pak relations, and will try to calm down tensions between the two neighbours.
Pranab Mukharjee spoke with Jiechi last month and urged him to pressurise Pakistan to arrest the culprits of the Mumbai terror attacks.
The Chinese Foreign Minister had visited India last September to convey Beijing’’s stand at the NSG meeting at Vienna for granting a waiver to New Delhi for conducting nuclear trade.
Jiechi then met Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee and both sides vowed to further step up cooperation and continuously enhance the relationship.
He also expressed China’’s willingness to invest in Indian infrastructure during the visit. (ANI)
