Chief Election Commissioner reviews election preparedness in Assam

Guwahati, Mar 7(ANI): Chief Election Commissioner, S.Y. Quraishi along with two election commissioners have arrived in Guwahati on Monday to review the poll preparedness in Assam.

The Election commission is scheduled to meet the representatives of various political parties, besides the district election officers and the Superintendents of Police.

The Commission will also meet the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of the State to take overall stock of the situation and to discuss poll-related issues.

Elections will be held in Assam on 4 and 11 April in two phases for the 126 member state assembly. While 62 constituencies will poll on April 4, the remaining 64 constituencies will vote on April 11. The Election Commission has said 23,813 polling booths are being set up for the elections.

Besides Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry would hold provincial polls between April 4 and May 10.

For the first time, overseas Indian citizens of Assam can also enroll themselves as voters and will be able to vote. (ANI)
