New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday reviewed anti-naxal operations in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli District.
He held a meeting with Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil, Minister of State for Home Pratik Patil, DGP D Sivanandan and other senior officers to assess the preparedness of security forces in tackling the menace.
He then visited a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in the Murunga forest, about 30 km from the district town.
He later addressed local police personnel and CRPF troopers in Dhanora area.
This is the first ever visit by a Union Home Minister to Gadchiorli, where Central para-military forces have been deployed to counter the Naxal threat.
Ahead of the visit, Naxals set afire a gram panchayat building in Dhanora tehsil of the district this morning.
The Maoists also blocked the Gadchiroli-Raipur Highway by felling a couple of trees near Koolbhatti area. (ANI)
